How our instruments are being used

Gas Data biogas analysers benefit the user in 3 areas: Safety, Maintenance, and Research. Gas Data product logged data locally to be uploaded to a network for further analysis and trend mapping.

This is an invaluable asset to maintain safety and efficiency on site, whilst giving those with experimental processes the capability to trace the effectiveness of their trials.

Benefit of using our instrument

A large proportion of Gas Data equipment is deployed on biogas sites globally. Gas Data supply analysis equipment to AD Plants running CHP Engines, those tracing the effectiveness of their desulphurization apparatus, and sites observing outputs when experimenting with feedstocks.

Gasification/Syngas

Application Background

Gasification can produce several useful outputs – either syngas or bio-chemicals. Whatever the output, the syngas generated must be analysed in order to adhere to Ofgem incentive schemes.

How our instruments are being used

The Ofgem incentive programmes are part of the UK’s push to generate electricity from renewable sources. In order to qualify, syngas production must comply with rules surrounding the biomass of the gasification stock. Anywhere with biomass stock can set up a gasifier and start generating electricity using syngas.

Benefit of using our instrument

Gas Data equipment analyses syngas composition before it is fed into the generator, as stipulated by the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). In order to qualify for the incentive scheme, syngas must have a minimum Gross Calorific Value (GCV) of 2MJ/m3. Gas Data syngas analysers calculates GCV on the user’s behalf, ensuring accurate results are sent to Ofgem.

Landfill Gas Monitoring and Analysis

Application Background

Gas produced by landfill is harnessed and deployed much in the same way as biogas: fed into an engine to generate power.

How our instruments are being used

Gas Data products allow the site managers and engineers to log the composition of landfill gas and respond accordingly. The toxic gases are observed to monitor the longevity of the generators while Oxygen is measured to maintain the safety of those on-site.

Analysing the composition is imperative. Gas Data products provide accurate readings in a timely manner, keeping the site equipment running smoothly and the site personnel safe from harm.

Upgrading/Biomethane Generation

Application Background

Gas to Grid networks are increasing in the UK and Ireland. Biomethane generation is a greener alternative to fracking or mining for natural gas. Furthermore, Biomethane is used as an alternative fuel in HGVs. The gas enters the grid or compressed into storage tanks, its composition must be carefully monitored.

How our instruments are being used

Prior to the injection of biomethane into the grid, Gas Data analysers stream the measurements to show its purity. Our sensors are calibrated to provide high range accuracy for CH4, and low range accuracy of CO2 and H2S. Alarms outputs and shut-off protocols can be implemented using the data provided.

Benefit of using our instrument

Measuring the impurities in the biomethane is crucial to ensure the gas network continues to run smoothly. Gas Data equipment ensure readings of the biomethane components are accurate, allowing operators to act accordingly and preserving the grid.

Wastewater and Sewage Treatment

Application Background

In an effort to reduce emissions, and waste by-products, wastewater facilities deploy AD plants. Sludge from the water treatment process is used as feedstock to generate biogas, fuelling generators on site.

How our instruments are being used

We at Gas Data are proud suppliers of analysis equipment and ongoing maintenance to 2 of the largest water companies in the UK. The equipment deployed is essential to the running of these sites as several are self-contained – with the processes all powered by the waste by-products.
