Product FAQs

  • What is a Bailer?

A water Bailer is a simple, cylindrical sampling device used to collect groundwater samples from wells, boreholes, or standpipes. It operates on gravity and is commonly used in environmental monitoring, well development, and groundwater quality testing.

  • How do I order my Bailer?

Before enquiring about the Bailer, please take a look at the datasheet to ensure the product is fit for purpose.

If you have any further queries, reach out to Gas Data directly for support where we can guide you through the options available. Orders can be placed directly from Gas Data. Please do make clear the model you are enquiring about from the start. Bailers are available in quantities of 12 and 24.

  • What is the lead time on a Bailer?

Our lead time can fluctuate throughout the year, but typically our lead time is a few days up to 2 weeks from receipt of order to being despatched for delivery.

  • How do I carry out monitoring with a Bailer?

Secure a line to the Bailer and slowly lower into the well or borehole. The domed design will allow for easy entry and removal of the Bailer.

When the bailer reaches the water level, the check valve will open and the Bailer will begin to fill with water. Leave the Bailer submerged for a few seconds at the target depth so that it can fill entirely, but you will feel the line go slack as it fills, indicating that the Bailer is full.

Once full, slowly and steadily pull the line to bring the Bailer up, being careful not to cause too much agitation that can cause splashing and loss of sample.

After the Bailer is exited out of the well or borehole, slowly tip the Bailer over a sample container being careful to avoid aeration or loss of sample.

Once emptied, the single-use Bailer can be safely disposed of.
