Measure & log H2S readings to ensure the safety of personnel on-site.

Odour Monitors

Odours are a common cause of air pollution complaints and can be caused by a variety of sources such as sewage and wastewater treatment facilities, refineries, landfills, rotting vegetation, as well as a variety of other industrial and waste facilities.

Our range of odour monitors

What causes odours

Odours in industrial applications can be caused by a number of gases. Most commonly, hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is the root cause of odours, particularly in industries such as wastewater treatment and biogas generation. Despite H2S begin the most common cause of odours, methane may also be monitored through the odour monitoring process.

Why Odour Monitoring is Essential

Many businesses have an “odour condition” in their environmental permit which could mean that the permit has been violated by the time the problem has been noticed. This is a similar case when thinking about planning applications, in many cases it is essential to provide evidence that the risk of odour emissions has been considered and monitoring solutions have been put in place.

It is essential to monitor H2S levels due its nature as an irritant and chemical asphyxiant. If levels of hydrogen sulphide remain unmonitored and isn’t controlled it can affect a worker’s ability to breath as the lungs absorb the gas. In more extreme circumstances where H2S levels are higher, it can begin to cause side effects including dizziness, nausea, and even death.

The legal occupational exposure limits for hydrogen sulphide are ten parts per million averaged over eight hours or fifteen parts per million over fifteen minutes – as determined by the Environmental

Why Gas Data odour monitors?

So that our clients can comply with EPA regulations, Gas Data odour monitoring equipment and H2S monitors are deployed to measure and log H2S readings. Our H2S monitors ensure the safety of personnel on-site along with the surrounding population. Handheld analysers can also be deployed as mobile detectors, tracing where the largest concentrations are present.

Gas Data have purpose-built odour monitoring equipment – able to log and stream data to give continual readings and giving those on-site confidence in their safety.
